Arthroscopic drainage of acute septic arthritis of knee in adult

چکیده
Aim: To evaluate effectiveness of arthroscopic drainage of acute septic arthritis knee in adult population. Materials and method: 19 patients with average age of 38.9 years (19-66 years) evaluated retrospectively and prospectively, for a minimum follow-up period of 6 months (6-28 months), on Tegner-Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale. Arthroscopic drainage was performed on these patients at an average delay of 6.84 (4-17) days after onset of symptoms, followed by immediate intravenous antibiotics and then oral therapy, as per culture-sensitivity, with active physiotherapy. Repeat arthroscopic lavage was performed where required. Results: 16 of 19 patients (84.2%) had good or excellent results, while 3 had fair results, of which 2 had recurrence of acute septic arthritis and 1 progressed to chronic osteomyelitis of tibia. Successful elimination of infection seen in 94.7%. Conclusion: Arthroscopic drainage is safe and effective alternative to the gold standard procedure of open arthrotomy and debridement for acute septic arthritis knee in adult population. Early debridement and lesser Gachter stage more often lead to good to excellent results.

Mortality and Adverse Joint Outcomes in Adult Patients with Surgically Treated Knee Septic Arthritis
Background and purpose: Septic arthritis is a serious orthopedic surgery and delayed management causes irreparable damages. The knee is the most common site involved in septic arthritis. The purpose of this study was to determine mortality rate, adverse joint outcome and prognostic factors in adult patients diagnosed with septic arthritis of the knee who had undergone debridement surgery. Mate...
متن کاملGram staining in the diagnosis of acute septic arthritis.
This study aimed at determining the sensitivity and specificity of Gram staining of synovial fluid as a diagnostic tool in acute septic arthritis. A retrospective study was made of 22 patients who had arthroscopic lavage following a provisional diagnosis of acute septic arthritis of the knee joint. Gram stains and cultures of the knee aspirates were compared with the clinical and laboratory par...

Background: Arthroscopic reconstruction of ACL is an effective method to restore knee stability after ACL rupture.Postoperative septic arthritis (SA) is very uncommon while the incidence of serious complications range between0.14% and 1.8%. Some of the devastating consequences of septic arthritis can encompass hyaline cartilage damage, arthrofibrosis, and in rare cases amputation. The purpose of...
متن کاملArthroscopic Treatment for Primary Septic Arthritis of the Hip in Adults
Purpose. Primary septic arthritis is a rare differential diagnosis of acute hip pain in adults. Inspired by the success of all-arthroscopic treatment in pediatric patients, we developed a diagnostic and surgical pathway for our adult patients. Methods. Seven patients, average age 44 ± 13.7 years with acute hip pain since 4.4 ± 2.9 days in the average, were included. Septic arthritis was confirm...
متن کاملSeptic arthritis of the knee associated with calf abscess.
Septic arthritis associated with extra-articular abscess is rare. We report on 2 non-rheumatic patients with septic arthritis of the knee associated with calf abscess. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a distinct leakage pathway from the knee joint in each patient. One was a ruptured popliteal cyst (posteromedial). Another was a pathologic popliteus hiatus (posterolateral). These patients under...
